Portal Delays
A player must stand in a Nether Portal for 4 seconds before traveling; End Portals and End Gateways work at once.
| Nether Portal delay | 4 seconds (80 ticks) for players in Survival and Adventure mode. The game rule Player's Nether Portal delay in non-creative mode changes it. |
| Creative mode | No delay by default. The game rule Player's Nether Portal delay in creative mode changes it. |
| Travel moment | With the default delay, travel happens on the 81st tick in a row spent in the portal. |
| Stepping out | Each tick outside the portal takes 4 ticks off the time built up, down to zero. |
| Cooldown after travel | After traveling, a player cannot use a portal for 0.5 seconds (10 ticks). Touching a portal during that time restarts the cooldown. |
| Mobs and items | Mobs, items and other entities travel through a Nether Portal without delay and then have a cooldown of 15 seconds (300 ticks). |
| End portals | End Portals and End Gateways have no delay. An End Gateway cannot be used for 2 seconds (40 ticks) after each use. |
