Tool speed and drops
A tool's mining speed on a block and whether the block drops anything are separate properties, so a tool can have a high mining speed on a block and still get no drop.
Rules
| Tool speed | A tool has its material's speed on the blocks it is made for and speed 1 on everything else. An empty hand or any other item also has speed 1. |
| Material speeds | Wooden 2, Stone 4, Copper 5, Iron 6, Diamond 8, Netherite 9, Golden 12. |
| Right tool for drops | Blocks such as Stone drop nothing unless they are mined with a tool that is right for them. Each tool material has its own list of blocks it is too weak for. |
| Speed without drops | A Golden Pickaxe has speed 12 on Diamond Ore but is too weak for it: the ore drops nothing, and progress uses the wrong-tool divisor of 100. |
| Golden tools | Golden tools are too weak for every block that needs a stone, iron or diamond tool. |
