Command
/time
Changes or reads the time of a world clock, such as the day and night cycle, and can pause it or change how fast it runs.
| /time (add <time>|rate <rate>) |
| /time of <clock> (add <time>|rate <rate>) |
| /time of <clock> (pause|resume) |
| /time of <clock> query time |
| /time of <clock> query <timeline> [repetition] |
| /time of <clock> set <time> |
| /time of <clock> set <timemarker> |
| /time (pause|resume) |
| /time query (gametime|time) |
| /time query <timeline> [repetition] |
| /time set <time> |
| /time set <timemarker> |
| Argument | Kind of value | What to type |
|---|---|---|
| <time> | Time | For set, the total tick count to set the clock to (minimum 0). For add, the amount to add, which may be negative. Accepts the units t, s and d. |
| <clock> | Game id | The clock to act on after of: minecraft:overworld or minecraft:the_end. The id of a world clock. |
| <timeline> | Game id | The timeline to query: minecraft:day, minecraft:moon, minecraft:villager_schedule or minecraft:early_game. It must belong to the clock being used. The id of a timeline. |
| <rate> | Decimal number | The speed of the clock as a multiple of normal speed, from 0.00001 to 1000. From 1e-05 to 1000. |
| <timemarker> | Id | A named point in time to move to. In 26.3: day (1000), noon (6000), night (13000) and midnight (18000), also written as minecraft:day and so on. |
| Permission level | 2: operators, worlds with cheats on, command blocks and functions |
| Works in | Server operators, players in a singleplayer or LAN world with cheats enabled, the server console, command blocks and functions. |
| Result | set and add report the new tick count of the clock, or the time marker it moved to, and return the clock time in ticks. query reports and returns the requested value in ticks or repetitions. pause, resume and rate return 1. Returned values above 2147483647 wrap around. |
| Named times | /time set day moves to tick 1000 of the day, noon to tick 6000, night to tick 13000 and midnight to tick 18000. A day lasts 24000 ticks (20 minutes). The clock moves forward to the next time that point is reached, so the day count is kept. It fails if the clock is already exactly at that point. |
| Setting a number | /time set <time> sets the total tick count of the clock, counted from tick 0, so /time set 1000 also returns the clock to the first day. The minimum is 0. It fails if the clock is already at that value. |
| Time units | A time is a number of ticks, or a number with a unit: t for ticks, s for seconds (20 ticks) and d for in-game days (24000 ticks). Decimals are allowed, for example 0.5d is 12000 ticks. |
| add | /time add <time> moves the clock forward. A negative value moves it back, but never below 0. |
| query | /time query time shows the total ticks of the clock. /time query gametime shows the total ticks the world has run. /time query <timeline> shows the position inside a timeline, for example 0 to 23999 for minecraft:day, and adding repetition shows how many times that timeline has completed, which for minecraft:day is the number of days passed. |
| Timelines | The timelines in 26.3 are minecraft:day (24000 ticks), minecraft:moon (192000 ticks, 8 days), minecraft:villager_schedule (24000 ticks) and minecraft:early_game (does not repeat). All of them use the minecraft:overworld clock. |
| pause, resume and rate | /time pause stops the clock and /time resume starts it again. /time rate <rate> sets how fast the clock runs compared with normal, from 0.00001 to 1000; 1 is normal speed. Each fails if the clock is already in that state. |
| Clocks and dimensions | Without of, the command uses the clock of the dimension it is run in: minecraft:overworld in the Overworld and minecraft:the_end in the End. The Nether has no clock, so there the command fails with "There is no default clock in dimension" unless a clock is named with /time of <clock> followed by set, add, query, pause, resume or rate. |
| Markers belong to a clock | day, noon, night and midnight exist only on the minecraft:overworld clock. Using a marker or a timeline with another clock fails. |
/time set dayMoves the time forward to the next morning (tick 1000 of the day).
/time set noonMoves the time forward to the next noon (tick 6000 of the day).
/time set nightMoves the time forward to the next nightfall (tick 13000 of the day).
/time set midnightMoves the time forward to the next midnight (tick 18000 of the day).
/time set 6000Sets the clock to exactly 6000 ticks, which is noon on the first day.
/time add 1dMoves the time forward by one in-game day (24000 ticks).
/time add 30sMoves the time forward by 30 seconds (600 ticks).
/time query minecraft:dayShows how many ticks of the current day have passed.
/time query minecraft:day repetitionShows how many full days have passed.
/time query gametimeShows the total number of ticks the world has run.
/time pauseStops the clock of the current dimension, so the time of day no longer changes.
/time rate 2Makes the clock run at twice the normal speed.
/time of minecraft:overworld set noonSets the Overworld clock to noon from any dimension, including the Nether.
