Command
/ride
Makes an entity start riding another entity or get off the one it is riding.
| /ride <target> dismount |
| /ride <target> mount <vehicle> |
| Argument | Kind of value | What to type |
|---|---|---|
| <target> | Target selector | The entity that becomes the rider, or that gets off. One entity only. |
| <vehicle> | Target selector | For mount: the entity to ride on. It cannot be a player. One entity only. |
| Permission level | 2: operators, worlds with cheats on, command blocks and functions |
| Works in | Singleplayer with cheats enabled, operators on multiplayer servers, command blocks and functions. |
| Result | mount reports "<entity> started riding <vehicle>" and dismount reports "<entity> stopped riding <vehicle>". The number /execute store saves is 1. |
| One at a time | Both the rider and the vehicle must be a single entity. Use limit=1 in selectors that could match more. |
| Any entity as a vehicle | The rider is forced on, so mobs that cannot normally be ridden work as vehicles. Players cannot be used as the vehicle: "Players can't be ridden". |
| Mount failures | mount fails if the rider is already riding something (dismount it first), if the vehicle is the rider itself or one of its passengers, if the two are in different dimensions, or if the vehicle cannot take the rider. |
| Dismount failure | dismount fails with "<entity> is not riding any vehicle" when the entity is not riding anything. |
