/place

Command

/place

Generates a feature, a whole structure, a jigsaw structure or a saved structure template at a position.

Syntax

/place (feature <feature>|structure <structure>) [<pos>]
/place jigsaw <pool> <target> <max_depth> [<position>]
/place template <template> [<pos> [<rotation> [<mirror> [<integrity> [<seed> [strict]]]]]]

Arguments

ArgumentKind of valueWhat to type
<feature>FeatureFor feature: the feature to place, for example minecraft:fancy_oak, or an inline feature definition.
<pos>Block positionFor feature, structure and template: where to place it. Defaults to the position the command runs from.
<pool>Game idFor jigsaw: the template pool the first piece is taken from, for example minecraft:village/plains/houses. The id of a template pool.
<target>IdFor jigsaw: the name of the jigsaw connector in the first piece that is lined up with the position, for example minecraft:building_entrance.
<max_depth>Whole numberFor jigsaw: how many levels of connected pieces may be generated, from 1 to 20.
<position>Block positionFor jigsaw: where the structure starts. Defaults to the position the command runs from.
<structure>Game idFor structure: the structure to generate, for example minecraft:village_plains. The id of a structure.
<template>IdFor template: the id of the saved structure, for example minecraft:igloo/top.
<rotation>Structure rotationFor template: none, clockwise_90, 180 or counterclockwise_90.
<mirror>MirrorFor template: none, left_right or front_back.
<integrity>Decimal numberFor template: a number from 0.0 to 1.0. Below 1.0, blocks are randomly left out; the lower the value, the more blocks are missing. From 0 to 1.
<seed>Whole numberFor template: a whole number that decides which blocks are left out when integrity is below 1.0.

Details

Permission level2: operators, worlds with cheats on, command blocks and functions
Works inSingleplayer with cheats enabled, operators on multiplayer servers, command blocks and functions.
ResultReports what was placed and where: "Placed <feature> at x, y, z", "Generated structure <id> at x, y, z", "Generated jigsaw at x, y, z" or "Loaded template <id> at x, y, z". The number /execute store saves is 1.
featurePlaces a single world generation feature such as a tree, an ore vein or a Desert Well. The feature can be an id or an inline definition. It fails with "Failed to place feature" when the feature cannot generate at that spot, for example a tree with no soil under it.
structureGenerates a complete structure such as a Village or Trial Chambers, starting in the chunk of the position. It fails with "Failed to place structure" if the structure cannot generate there.
jigsawBuilds a structure from a template pool the way jigsaw blocks do: a piece from the pool is placed so that its jigsaw connector named by target sits at the position, then connected pieces are added up to max_depth levels. Pieces stay within 128 blocks of the start.
templateLoads a saved structure file, the same files Structure Blocks use. Defaults: no rotation, no mirror, integrity 1 and seed 0. Fails with "There is no template with ID" if the template does not exist.
strictFor template: the optional keyword strict at the very end, after the seed, places the blocks exactly as saved, without letting them adjust their shape to neighboring blocks.
Default positionWithout a position the block the command runs from is used.
Loaded chunksAll chunks that are affected must be loaded, otherwise the command fails with "That position is not loaded". For a feature this includes the eight chunks around the target chunk; for a structure, every chunk it covers.
