Command
/particle
Shows particles at a position to all players or to chosen players.
| /particle <name> [<pos> [<delta> <speed> <count> [(force|normal) [<viewers>]]]] |
| Argument | Kind of value | What to type |
|---|---|---|
| <name> | Particle | The particle id, for example minecraft:flame, followed by options in braces for particles that need them. |
| <pos> | Exact position | Where the particles appear. Defaults to the position the command runs from. |
| <delta> | Exact position | Three numbers for the x, y and z axes: the size of the random spread when count is above 0, or the direction of motion when count is 0. |
| <speed> | Decimal number | The speed of the particles, 0 or higher. At least 0. |
| <count> | Whole number | How many particles to show, 0 or more. 0 shows a single particle that uses delta as its motion. At least 0. |
| <viewers> | Target selector | The players who receive the particles. Defaults to all players. One or more players. |
| Permission level | 2: operators, worlds with cheats on, command blocks and functions |
| Works in | Singleplayer with cheats enabled, operators on multiplayer servers, command blocks and functions. |
| Result | Reports "Displaying particle <id>". The number /execute store saves is the number of players the particles were sent to. |
| Short forms | With only a particle id, one particle appears at the position the command runs from. With an id and a position, one particle appears there. Delta, speed and count must always be given together. |
| Count of 0 | A count of 0 shows exactly one particle at the position with no random spread. Its motion on each axis is delta multiplied by speed, so delta acts as a direction. |
| Count above 0 | That many particles are shown. Each one is offset from the position by a random amount, with delta setting the size of the spread on each axis, and gets a random motion scaled by speed. |
| Viewing distance | With normal (the default) only players within 32 blocks of the position receive the particles, and their game hides them when their Particles setting is Minimal. With force the limit is 512 blocks and the particles are shown regardless of the Particles setting. |
| Viewers | Without viewers the particles go to every player. Players in another dimension than the one the command runs in never receive them. |
| Nobody in range | If no viewer is close enough the command fails with "The particle was not visible for anybody". |
| Particle options | Some particles need extra options in braces directly after the id, for example minecraft:dust{color:[1.0,0.0,0.0],scale:1.0}. |
