| Argument | Kind of value | What to type |
|---|---|---|
| <begin> | Block position | One corner of the source area. |
| <end> | Block position | The opposite corner of the source area. |
| <destination> | Block position | Where the copy goes: the corner of the destination area with the lowest coordinates. |
| <filter> | Block test | For filtered: the block or block tag to copy, for example minecraft:stone or #minecraft:logs, optionally with block states and data. |
| <targetDimension> | Dimension | The dimension to copy into. |
| <sourceDimension> | Dimension | The dimension to copy from, for example minecraft:overworld, minecraft:the_nether, or minecraft:the_end. |
| Permission level | 2: operators, worlds with cheats on, command blocks and functions |
| Works in | Singleplayer with cheats enabled and multiplayer servers. Needs permission level 2 (gamemasters): server operators, players with cheats, command blocks, and functions can all run it. |
| Result | Reports "Successfully cloned" with the number of blocks. The number /execute store saves is the number of blocks that were placed and changed at the destination. |
| Basic form | The first two positions are opposite corners of the source area. The destination is the corner of the new copy with the lowest x, y, and z coordinates. |
| from and to | Put "from" and a dimension before the source corners to copy out of another dimension, and "to" and a dimension before the destination to copy into another dimension. Without them, the dimension the command runs in is used. |
| replace | Copies every block, including Air. This is the default. |
| masked | Copies only blocks that are not Air, so empty space in the source does not erase blocks at the destination. |
| filtered | Copies only blocks that match the given block or block tag. |
| normal | The default. The source and destination must not overlap when they are in the same dimension. |
| force | Allows the source and destination to overlap. |
| move | Copies the blocks and then replaces the copied source blocks with Air. Overlapping is allowed. |
| strict | Written before replace, masked, or filtered, or on its own. Places the blocks exactly as copied, without block updates for the copied blocks or their neighbors. |
| What is copied | Blocks keep their states and contents, such as the items in a Chest, and scheduled block ticks are copied as well. |
| Size limit | The source area may contain at most as many blocks as the max_block_modifications game rule allows, which is 32768 by default. Larger areas fail with "Too many blocks in the specified area". |
| Failure reasons | Fails if the areas overlap without force or move, if either area is not fully loaded, or if nothing changed at the destination ("No blocks were cloned"). |
/clone 0 64 0 10 70 10 100 64 100Copies the area between the two corners to a new spot starting at 100 64 100.
/clone ~-5 ~ ~-5 ~5 ~10 ~5 ~20 ~ ~ maskedCopies the blocks around you 25 blocks along x, skipping Air.
/clone 0 64 0 10 70 10 0 80 0 replace moveMoves the area up, leaving Air where it was.
/clone 0 64 0 10 70 10 100 64 100 filtered minecraft:stoneCopies only the Stone blocks from the area.
/clone from minecraft:overworld 0 64 0 10 70 10 to minecraft:the_nether 0 64 0Copies an Overworld area into the Nether.
/clone 0 64 0 10 70 10 5 64 0 replace forceCopies the area onto a destination that overlaps the source.
