Combat mechanic
Armor and toughness
Each armor point blocks 4% of a hit, up to 80% at 20 points, and strong hits count fewer armor points unless the wearer has armor toughness.
| Damage taken | Damage x (1 − effective armor ÷ 25). Each effective armor point removes 4% of the hit. |
| Effective armor | Armor − damage ÷ (2 + toughness ÷ 4). It never drops below 20% of the armor value and never exceeds 20. |
| Maximum | 20 effective armor points block 80% of a hit. |
| Toughness | With 0 toughness every 2 points of damage cancel 1 armor point. With 8 toughness it takes 4 points of damage. |
| Examples | A 10-damage hit on 15 armor and 0 toughness: effective armor 10, 6 damage taken. On 20 armor and 8 toughness: effective armor 17.5, 3 damage taken. |
| Breach | The Breach enchantment on the attacking weapon lowers the blocked share by 15 percentage points per level. |
| Ignores armor | Damage from falling, drowning, starving, burning, suffocating in a block, freezing, magic, the Wither effect, dragon breath and the sonic boom is not reduced by armor. |
