Start a wiki

A wiki is the container for everything else: its pages, its data, its look, its people. Making one takes a minute.

Create it

  1. Open Create a wiki, the button on the platform home once you are signed in.
  2. Give it a name: the game or subject it is about.
  3. Check the address.
  4. Create it. You land on an empty wiki with the full block palette.
Two fields. The name is what readers see; the address is the part of every URL that identifies your wiki, and unlike a page address it is not one to change later.

The address is worth a moment. Unlike a page address, it is not something to churn later.

You are its owner. Everything below lives under Manage, the button on your own wiki once you are signed in.

Name it and dress it

One screen, five groups. Everything wiki-wide is decided here, and the three below are the ones worth getting right before you build many pages.
GeneralName, tagline, description. The last two are what a link preview shows and what search engines quote.
BrandingLogo, banner, tab icon and a default share image, the one that appears when somebody posts a link in a chat.
AppearancePage and card backgrounds, borders, gradient, overlay. Blocks take their defaults from these.

Set Appearance before building many pages. Not because it is hard to change, but because a page designed against the wrong background acquires per-block colours that then have to be undone.

Languages

Default languageWhat your wiki is written in.What a reader gets when nothing better is available.
SupportedThe list readers can switch to.Adding one opens the door; it translates nothing.

Everything about walking through that door is in Translations.

Being found

Settings › SEO holds a default page title and description, the share image, and a search-visibility switch.

That switch is the one to be deliberate about. Off while the wiki is a building site, on when it is ready to be found. Everything else is a sensible default.
