Organise your pages

Twenty pages need no organising. Two hundred do, and the moment you notice is usually the moment it has already got away from you.

Addresses are the structure

There are no folders to create. A slash in a page’s address is the structure, and it exists the moment a page uses it.

So weapons/winchester sits under weapons without anybody making a weapons anything. Create a page whose address is weapons and it becomes that section’s front page.

One level is usually enough. guides/combat/weapons/ranged/winchester is a filing cabinet nobody asked for, and readers reach pages through search and links far more than by walking a hierarchy.

Manage › Pages is every page you have, searchable. The fastest way to find something whose address you have forgotten, and where two problems show up:

Moving and renaming

Changing a page’s address is a supported operation, not a repair job:

1. Open the page and choose Move.
2. Type the new address.
3. Confirm.

A redirect is left behind, so every link anybody already wrote still arrives: in your pages, in bookmarks, in a forum post. That is what makes reorganising safe.

It does not rewrite the links inside your own pages. They keep working through the redirect, and the editor names the page a link points at, so a stale one is visible while you edit rather than after a reader finds it.
