Offline Rewards

With the Expedition Camp Life Skill, a character that comes back after at least a minute away gets gold and XP for the time away, up to 8 hours (16 with every time-limit Life Skill). It gives no items, materials, keys or potion charges.

Time away

"Your character keeps hunting while you are away. Gold and experience accumulate based on the highest area you have unlocked, and are collected the next time you enter town."

The time away runs from the end of the last session to the return, in whole minutes, and stops at the time limit: 8 hours, plus the hours of these Life Skills. For Singleplayer characters the game works the reward out as below; online characters get the reward the game server sends.

The stage it counts

The reward counts the furthest stage unlocked (not the furthest cleared) on the current difficulty: the one with the longest chain of stages before it. Dream realms count; the Mythic Rift and the Training Grounds do not. Where a dream realm and a stage are equally far, the one with the higher enemy level counts, and The Cinder Crown: 1 counts over Dreamy Keep. The level is that stage's highest enemy level on Normal and 70 on Nightmare and Inferno, not the hero's level.

Levels and Paragon

A hero above the stage's level gets 1/6 less XP per enemy for each level above it, and 1 XP per enemy at 6 or more levels above. The enemies are counted out level by level, each level at its own XP per enemy. XP past level 70, or all of it at level 70, goes to Paragon.

The reward window shows the time ("Rewarded Time", with "Limit reached" at the limit), the stage with its level and difficulty, the gold and XP, and "Levels gained" or "Paragon gained".
