Talents and mastery

The Keeper has five masteries: Building, Smithing, Farming, Book writing and Anatomy. Mastery decides which recipes you can craft and how good the results are; you raise it in the perk tree.

Mastery per tree

Every recipe shows its required mastery

A recipe card lists the mastery it needs (for example Building 2). Below that level you cannot start it; above it, the bronze, silver and gold thresholds decide how good the result can be. Temporary buffs from food and sermons add to it, and so do perks that give +2 to +4 for one kind of work.

Building mastery

Used by 158 recipes at 24 stations. The Building perk tree has 11 perks and +5 mastery.

Smithing mastery

Used by 86 recipes at 12 stations. The Smithing perk tree has 13 perks and +5 mastery.

Farming mastery

Used by 171 recipes at 30 stations. The Farming perk tree has 16 perks and +5 mastery.

Book writing mastery

Used by 39 recipes at 3 stations. The Book writing perk tree has 13 perks and +5 mastery.

Anatomy mastery

Used by 190 recipes at 15 stations. The Anatomy perk tree has 15 perks and +5 mastery.

Points and the inspiration bar

Each colour has its own inspiration bar. Claiming an inspiration of that colour adds 1 or 2 notches; when the bar is full it turns into one inspiration point and starts again. The first point takes 2 notches, the second 3, the third 4 and every point after that 5. So 5 points take 19 notches, 10 points 44 and 20 points 94.

Questions

Do zombies use the same trees?

No. Every zombie worker has its own five trees. Zombies buy their nodes with the tech points they earn while crafting at a workstation, and their mastery also rises with better tools. See Zombie perks.

Can I reset the perk tree?

Nothing in the game refunds a node once it is bought, so plan the order: mastery upgrades first if a recipe you need is locked behind a mastery level.

What raises mastery for a short time?

Some dishes give +1 to +3 of one mastery for a while (for example Pumpkin soup for Building), Third Eye Salt gives +2 to all five, and the Prayer for Excellence blessing gives +1 to all five.
