Mesopithecus

Shoulder Pet · 20 maps

Overview

The Mesopithecus is a small herbivore tamed as a shoulder pet. It passively gathers a wide variety of plant-based resources while ridden. This creature is primarily used for efficient, hands-free harvesting of berries, seeds, mushrooms, and wood without needing to dismount your mount.

It can be carried by flyers and large creatures such as Argentavis, Quetzal, and Karkinos, allowing for aerial or fast ground deployment while keeping its gathering utility active.

Mod Maps

Mesopithecus is tamed passively by feeding it while near the creature. The best food is Basic Kibble, which provides the fastest taming. Mejoberry also works well.

Taming takes about 1 minute with Basic Kibble at level 150 on official settings. No narcotics are needed. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Drops & Harvest Resources

Killing a Mesopithecus yields Hide and Raw Meat. The Hatchet yields the Hide, while the Pick favors Raw Meat.

Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.

Gathering Abilities

While mounted, Mesopithecus gathers using its Melee and ThrowPoop attacks, both harvesting the same resources. It excels at collecting berries, seeds, mushrooms, rare flowers, rare mushrooms, stimberries, cactus sap, fiber, and wood. Each of these resources receives a 10× multiplier, with cactus sap and fiber at 8×. This makes it one of the most efficient passive gatherers for plant-based materials.

Damage Resistances

Mesopithecus takes +120% damage from instant-damage sources, making it highly vulnerable to traps and instant-hit weapons. It resists melee attacks with impact effects and explosions by -50%, and ranged turrets by -50%. It is weak to explosion-based demolition damage (+50%) and melee attacks that also deal projectile impact damage (+50%).

Mesopithecus Tips & Tricks

The Mejoberry and Stimberry harvest rate is multiplied by 10, making Mesopithecus ideal for farming these high-value berries.

It gathers Plant Species Y Seed and Plant Species X Seed at 10× efficiency, useful for kibble and narcotic production.

Pairs well with Argentavis for airborne harvesting runs, retaining full functionality while carried.

Its -85% Wood weight reduction stacks with inventory mods, allowing massive wood loads with minimal encumbrance.
