Shoulder Pet · 22 maps
Compy is a small carnivore commonly tamed as a Shoulder Pet. It is highly vulnerable to damage from explosive sources and takes significantly more harm from melee attacks using metal weapons. This makes it fragile in combat, but its small size allows it to be carried by larger flying creatures for quick deployment. It can be airlifted by Argentavis or Karkinos for fast deployment.
The Compy is primarily used as a passive companion due to its inability to gather resources effectively while ridden. Its main utility lies in its portability and low maintenance rather than combat or resource collection.
Compy spawns on 21 ARK maps, appearing commonly in biomes such as beaches, cities, forests, jungles, and redwood areas. Players can expect frequent sightings across these regions, with higher concentrations typically found in forested and urban zones.

Taming a Compy requires knockout via tranq weapons. The most effective food is Raw Mutton, which provides the highest affinity gain. Raw Prime Meat also works, though it is less efficient. Typical knockout tools include the Bow, Crossbow, or Compound Bow using Tranq Arrows.
Immobilization can be achieved with a Bola or Bear Trap. The process takes about 1 minute with Raw Mutton at level 224 effectiveness. Use the calculator below for your settings.
| Food | Qty | Time | Effectiveness |
|---|---|---|---|

| 3 | 41 | 74 Lvl (224) | |

Killing a Compy yields Hide and Raw Meat. The Hatchet yields the most Hide, while the Pick favours Raw Meat.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
Compy has a strong vulnerability to explosive damage, taking +50% more from sources like cannons or grenades. It also suffers +120% damage from instant-damage effects such as dino attacks. Conversely, it is highly resistant to mining drill attacks, taking -100% damage. Spike walls are 50% less effective. Focus on using ranged explosives or strong melee attackers to exploit its weaknesses.

Compy takes +120% damage from instant-damage sources, making it extremely fragile in combat.
It is highly resistant to mining drill attacks, rendering such tools ineffective against it.
The creature can be carried by flyers such as Quetzal or Tapejara, enabling mobile deployment.
Due to its low weight, it pairs well with heavy cargo carriers for efficient transport.
