- Troilite (FeS).
- An iron sulfide mineral, likely formed around deep hydrothermal vents. Despite its simple structure, troilite displays unusual quantum spin properties, especially at temperatures above 150C. (Hydrothermal vent temperature may approach 500C.)
- Although these properties were known even before the Expansion, they were never thoroughly investigated. They may provide a material basis for spintronic computing, an electronic approach to quantum computing that is distinct from the light-based technologies developed in transgov space.
- Recommendation: investigate the role of troilite in alien computational systems.
