Troilite

Troilite (FeS). An iron sulfide mineral, likely formed around deep hydrothermal vents. Despite its simple structure, troilite displays unusual quantum spin properties, especially at temperatures above 150C. (Hydrothermal vent temperature may approach 500C.) Although these properties were known even before the Expansion, they were never thoroughly investigated. They may provide a material basis for spintronic computing, an electronic approach to quantum computing that is distinct from the light-based technologies developed in transgov space. Recommendation: investigate the role of troilite in alien computational systems.
