Phoenix Taming Calculator

Set a Phoenix on fire and keep it burning. Fire heals it, and the damage that would have healed it becomes taming progress instead, so ordinary weapons do nothing at all. Shoot it with flame arrows, hose it with a flamethrower, have a Fire Wyvern breathe on it or light a campfire underneath it. The tame has a deadline: it only exists during a Superheat event, and if that ends first it burns to ash and respawns from the pile at the next one. Caging it makes the race easier. It never eats from your hand, and once tamed it prefers Sulfur.

How this tame works

No feeding

Land 4,728 hits with a Bow.

Fire damage needed260,000total, from any burning source
Safe gap12sbefore progress drains
Effectiveness100%+75 Lvl
Tames at225from level 150
Longest gap without fire

It only loses ground after 12 seconds without fire. Past that it sheds 14 progress a second.

Weapon

Each hit lands 55 fire damage, so the count below is what you need to bring. A partly drawn bow is worth less.

Weapon damage

Progress tracks damage dealt, so a higher damage rating cuts the count by the same factor.

    Starve & Torpor Timers

Use the feeding timer to know when the Phoenix will accept its next meal. No more guessing between feeds.

Found throughout the ARKs, the Phoenix is a tamable, flying, minerals creature in ARK: Survival Ascended. It falls within the Flyer classification.
