Shoulder Pet · 22 maps
Pegomastax is a small herbivore that functions as a shoulder pet. It uses a special passive taming method where it steals food from your inventory to gain taming progress. This makes it ideal for players seeking a low-maintenance companion that can gather resources while perched. It can be airlifted by Argentavis or Karkinos for fast deployment.
The creature is commonly used to automate berry and seed collection in the field without requiring direct riding.
Pegomastax spawns on 22 ARK maps, appearing in beach, desert, forest, oasis, and redwood biomes. It is considered rare, so sightings are infrequent. Focus searches on green zones of the spawn map for the highest density.

Taming a Pegomastax uses the special passive method. Place your chosen food in the last slot of your inventory and allow the Pegomastax to steal it. Each successful theft grants taming progress. Mejoberry is the best food, though Narcoberry also works. Use a Bola or Bear Trap to immobilize it if needed. The process takes about 15 minutes. Use the calculator below for your settings.
To tame a Pegomastax, place the food you want it to steal in your last inventory slot. Let the Pegomastax steal from you — it will eat the food and gain taming progress. Repeat until fully tamed. Mejoberries and crops work well.
Killing a Pegomastax yields Hide and Raw Meat. The Hatchet yields the most Hide, while the Pick favours Raw Meat.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
While mounted, Pegomastax gathers a wide variety of resources using any of its attacks. It harvests up to 10× yield on Berries, Seeds, Mushrooms, Rare Flowers, Rare Mushrooms, Stimberries, and Wood. It also gathers Cactus Sap and Fiber at 8× efficiency. This makes it a powerful passive gatherer for plant-based resources without needing to dismount.
Pegomastax has a 60% resistance to fire damage, making it highly resilient against fire-based attacks. It takes 120% more damage from instant melee sources, such as spike walls, which are very effective in defensive setups. It is also weak to metal melee, explosions, and piercing projectiles. Level Health and Melee Damage for survivability.

The head has a 3× damage multiplier, making headshots highly effective for faster knockouts. Aim for the head when sedating to reduce taming time.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
The Bite, Pick-pocket, Jump, and Roar attacks all gather the same resource types at equal efficiency.
It gathers Berries, Seeds, Rare Flowers, Rare Mushrooms, and Wood at 10× yield.
Cactus Sap and Fiber are gathered at 8× yield.
It can be carried by flyers like Argentavis and Quetzal, enabling aerial scouting and mobile gathering.
Its 60% fire resistance allows it to survive in volcanic or fire-heavy environments better than most small creatures.
It cannot damage Wood or higher-tier structures, so do not rely on it for base demolition.
