Onyc Egg & Breeding Calculator

Instead of laying eggs, the Onyc carries its young through a gestation period. Gestation takes approximately 4 hours at default rates.

After hatching or birth, the baby Onyc matures over a lengthy period, reaching adulthood in about 1 day and 4 hours at 1x maturation. Hand-feeding is required until 10% maturation. After that, a Feeding Trough handles the rest.

Mutations can add +2 levels to any stat and change colors. Stacking mutations across generations is the key to min-maxed breeding lines. Use the breeding calculator to plan food requirements, incubation timers, and maturation phases.

The dinosaur reaches the juvenile stage, where it can now eat from a feeding trough, reducing the need for direct feeding.

The dinosaur reaches the adolescent stage, becoming more independent and able to follow you while continuing to grow toward full maturity.

Raising a baby Onyc involves three maturation phases: Baby (0–10%) lasts ~168 min and requires constant hand-feeding. Juvenile (10–50%) spans ~11h - it can eat from a Trough now. Adolescent (50–100%) takes ~14h - continues eating from troughs, nearly fully grown.

Don't skip imprinting - each successful imprint boosts the Onyc's stats, and hitting 100% grants a 30% combat bonus when the imprinter rides it. Imprint requests include cuddling, walks, and specific kibble - check the wiki for which kibble to stockpile.

Planning a mass raise? The Onyc raising calculator breaks down food needs per phase so nothing goes to waste. The Baby phase (0–10%) takes ~168 minutes and is the most hands-on, requiring direct feeding or a Maewing.

Raising multiple Onyc simultaneously? Set the dino count and the calculator scales food requirements automatically. Match your food choice to your play schedule - longer spoil timers mean less babysitting.

During the Baby phase (0-10%), you must hand-feed or use a Maewing to nurse. From Juvenile (10%+), dinos can eat from a Feeding Trough on their own. Use Preserving Salt in troughs to double spoil times.

The Onyc, a tamable, flying, carnivore creature in ARK: Survival Ascended, is well-known across multiple maps. It falls within the Flyer classification.

The Onyc has 250 base Health - relatively fragile. With 100% base Melee Damage, the Onyc has solid damage output. With 100 base Stamina, the Onyc has tires quickly. A base Weight of 50 means not built for hauling.

This is a passive tame: no tranquilizers needed. Get close without startling it, then offer food from your last hotbar slot. Its preferred food is Raw Mutton.

As a tame, the Onyc is commonly used for scouting and quick travel between locations. Breeding is via live birth rather than eggs, simplifying the process. A wild Onyc is worth 3 base experience when killed. It can be cloned at a Cloning Chamber for 0.02 Element plus 0.01 Element per level.
