The Aberrant Otter is a small piscivore variant found in the Aberration biome. It is tamed passively and provides weight reduction for key resources when carried by certain flyers. Its primary utility comes from being transported by aerial mounts such as Argentavis or Karkinos to enable fast deployment in resource-rich zones.
It can be airlifted by Quetzal, Tapejara, and other carry-capable creatures for efficient long-distance travel and scouting in caves and fertile zones.
The Aberrant Otter spawns in cave and fertile-zone biomes across 12 ARK maps. It is classified as very rare, making sightings uncommon even in its preferred underground environments. Focus searches in the green zones on the spawn map for the highest encounter likelihood.

Taming an Aberrant Otter uses the passive method, requiring no knockout or traps. Feed it Raw Mutton for the fastest results, with Cooked Lamb Chop as a viable alternative. Raw Prime Fish Meat also works but is significantly slower.
The process takes about 9 minutes with Raw Mutton at level 150 on official rates. No narcotics are needed. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Killing an Aberrant Otter yields Hide, Raw Meat, and Pelt. The Hatchet provides the highest quantity of Hide and Pelt, while the Pick maximizes Raw Meat harvest.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
The Aberrant Otter has a strong vulnerability to Instant HurtDinos, taking +120% more damage from such sources. It is highly resistant to Mining Drill Harvest, taking -100% damage, and also weak to Melee DmgMetal RaidDino (+55%) and Explosion Demolition (+50%). Melee attacks from herbivores are 40% less effective against it.

The Aberrant Otter has a head hitbox multiplier of 1.5x, making headshots more effective for torpor or damage. Target the head for faster knockouts during passive taming attempts.

The Aberrant Otter takes +120% damage from Instant HurtDinos, making it extremely vulnerable to certain environmental hazards.
It is completely immune to Mining Drill Harvest damage, preventing resource extraction via drill tools.
Melee attacks from metal-based raid creatures deal +55% damage, exploiting a key weakness.
Explosive demolition damage is 50% more effective, making C4 or grenades strong choices for takedown.
It can be carried by Argentavis and Tropeognathus, enabling aerial transport for scouting.
Its compact size allows it to fit in tight cave systems where larger mounts cannot travel.
