🌅 Casa Senja — Retirement, but Make It Beachfront

For years, the old suburban beach house was home to the lovely couple Faye Orozco and Florence O'Reilly, a charming property full of character, memories, and all the little quirks that come with a house that has seen plenty of life.

Then their neighbours built Casa Ombak on the empty lot next door. And suddenly, Faye and Florence had a problem. Their neighbour had a better beach view.

Naturally, retirement was no longer an option.

Instead, the couple decided to give their beloved home its own transformation — a spacious, light-filled retirement sanctuary with a splash of mid-century luxury, while making absolutely sure they could exploit every possible centimetre of that glorious beach view.

🌿🎵 Designed Around the Couple

Florence loves gardening. Faye loves music.

So, the renovation had to accommodate both.

The couple largely kept the original footprint of their beloved suburban home, preserving some of its character, materials and connection to the neighbourhood. But inside? Almost nothing was sacred.

The internal walls came down, the basement was completely rearranged, and a new extension was added to pull even more of the beach into the house.

And then came the pièce de résistance

A huge terrace overlooking the backyard and beach, perfect for morning coffee, afternoon lounging, gardening, evening drinks and, most importantly, BBQs.

Because what is retirement without a BBQ?

The main floor is designed around easy, comfortable coastal living:

Casa Senja may have lost some of its original suburban character — including its iconic old roof — but it hasn't forgotten where it came from.

The renovation deliberately preserves elements of the original home and its surroundings, blending them with a mid-century-inspired aesthetic that echoes the new house next door.

The result is something a little more refined, a little more spacious and considerably better at capturing the sunlight and beach views.

After all, if you're going to retire by the coast, you might as well actually see the coast.
