Knock the Palaeoctopus unconscious using your preferred torpor weapon, then feed it to begin the taming process. Torpor bleeds at 0.1/s, requiring regular sedative application to prevent a premature wakeup.

Use the calculator results to plan your tame - they show the exact time, food quantity, and bonus levels for the Palaeoctopus based on your settings.
Use the narcotic calculator to determine exactly how many Narcotics, Bio Toxin, or Narcoberries you need for the Palaeoctopus. Your options are Narcotics (40 Torpor), Bio Toxin (80 Torpor, best efficiency), or Narcoberries (7.5 Torpor, cheapest but slowest). With Torpor draining at 0.1/s, don't wait until the bar is nearly empty to apply narcotics.
Track the taming process with the timers below - they monitor both Torpor and starvation progress. Torpor monitoring prevents premature wakeups. The starve timer is for the starve-tame method - let Food drop, then load all kibble at once to avoid waste.
ARK: Survival Ascended features the Palaeoctopus as a tamable, carnivore creature that survivors will encounter in the wild. It falls within the Water classification.
Its base Melee Damage sits at 100%, giving it decent hitting power. With 1,050 base Health, the Palaeoctopus is solidly tanky. Stamina sits at 400 base, providing solid stamina reserves. A base Weight of 1000 means an enormous weight pool.
To tame the Palaeoctopus, you need to knock it unconscious using torpor weapons, then feed it while it's down. For best results, use Black Pearl - it gives the highest taming efficiency.
Once tamed, the Palaeoctopus combines solid harvesting capability with generous carrying capacity. Breeding produces fertilized eggs that hatch within a -75°C–75°C temperature window. It can be cloned at a Cloning Chamber for 0.85 Element plus 0.01 Element per level.
Take a look at this short video guide on how to tame a Palaeoctopus.
Estimated time until optimal feeding point: 18m 55s
Food to consume through starvation: 1260
Target food level: 7490
Use the knockout chart to see exactly how many Tranq Arrows, Darts, or other torpor weapons it takes to down the Palaeoctopus. Space your shots to let torpor accumulate - rapid firing risks killing it before knockout.
To simplify the knockout, immobilize the Palaeoctopus first with Chain Bola or Bear Trap. A Tusoteuthis can also pick it up and drop it into a taming pen for a controlled knockout.
