Overview

Palaeoctopus is a water-dwelling carnivore known for its unique role in underwater resource gathering. It is carried by Tusoteuthis, allowing it to be transported aerially for strategic deployment. This makes it ideal for players needing efficient underwater Bio Toxin and chitin collection while benefiting from mobile support.

Palaeoctopus must be knocked out to tame. The most effective food is Black Pearl, which provides the highest affinity. Raw Mutton also works, though less efficiently. Use a Bow or Crossbow with Tranq Arrows to sedate it. Immobilize it first with a Chain Bola or Bear Trap. The process takes around 38 minutes with 84 Black Pearls. Drops & Harvest Resources

Killing a Palaeoctopus yields Absorbent Substrate, Black Pearl, Hide, and Raw Meat. The Hatchet harvests the most Hide, while the Pick yields the highest amount of Raw Meat.

Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.

Gathering Abilities

While ridden, Palaeoctopus excels at harvesting Bio Toxin, Chitin, Keratin, Raw Fish Meat, and Raw Prime Fish Meat. Its Blast attack gathers these resources at up to 3× efficiency. All tentacle-based attacks contribute to gathering, making it highly effective in aquatic environments.

Damage Resistances

Palaeoctopus takes +400% more damage from spike walls, making it highly vulnerable to defensive setups using them. It is also weak to instant damage sources, taking +120% more damage. However, it is fully resistant to Mining Drill Harvest damage. Focus on Health and Melee Damage for survivability.

Palaeoctopus Tips & Tricks

The Blast attack gathers Bio Toxin at 3× efficiency, making it ideal for farming.\n\nAll tentacle attacks yield double resources from chitin and prime meat nodes.\n\nIt can be carried by Tusoteuthis, enabling aerial transport during operations.\n\nWhile being carried, it retains full functionality for underwater harvesting.\n\nIts high vulnerability to spike walls means it should never be used in direct combat near such defenses.
