Variant
Alpha Palaeoctopus is a large carnivore known for its ability to be carried by certain creatures for transport. It can be airlifted by Procoptodon, Quetzal, or Tusoteuthis to enable fast deployment across long distances. This mobility makes it useful for mobile combat and support roles where rapid repositioning is key.
Alpha Palaeoctopus does not currently spawn on any ARK: Survival Ascended map, or spawn data is not yet available.
Taming an Alpha Palaeoctopus requires knockout via tranquilizers. The most effective food is Black Pearl, which provides the highest affinity. Raw Mutton also works but is significantly slower. Use a Bow, Crossbow, or Compound Bow with Tranq Arrows to sedate it. Immobilize it first with a Chain Bola for safety. The tame takes about 38 minutes with 84 Black Pearls at level 180. Killing an Alpha Palaeoctopus yields Absorbent Substrate, Black Pearl, Prismatic Ink, Raw Fish Meat, Raw Prime Fish Meat, and Chitin. The Mining Drill provides the highest quantity yield for Raw Fish Meat, Raw Prime Fish Meat, and Chitin.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
The Alpha Palaeoctopus does not gather resources while ridden. Its attacks do not yield materials from structures or flora. It is not used for harvesting wood, thatch, stone, or metal. This creature serves no gathering utility in mounted play.
The Alpha Palaeoctopus is highly vulnerable to spike walls, which deal +400% damage. It also takes +120% damage from instant-damage sources and +55% from metal melee attacks. Explosions and piercing projectiles are especially effective, dealing +50% damage. Conversely, it is highly resistant to mining drill harvesting, taking -100% damage from it. Level Health and Melee Damage to maximize combat effectiveness.

The head of the Alpha Palaeoctopus is a critical hit zone, taking 1.5× damage compared to other body parts. Targeting the head speeds up knockout or combat encounters. No other hit zones have modified damage multipliers.
The Alpha Palaeoctopus can be carried by Procoptodon, allowing for aerial redeployment.
It is highly vulnerable to spike walls, making defensive perimeters very effective.
Explosive damage and piercing projectiles exploit its weaknesses efficiently.
It is immune to damage from mining drill harvesting, making it resilient against such tools.
Its Blast attack has a 23-meter range and deals 90 damage every 20 seconds.
The Suffocate attack applies a sustained 2 damage per second at 15 meters range.
