Overview

Maeguana is a small omnivore tamed for breeding. It reduces the weight of many inventory items by 50%. This makes it useful for transporting resources efficiently when carried by a Quetzal or Tusoteuthis.

It is primarily used to lighten large hauls during aerial transport operations, especially when farming high-volume resources.

Spawn Locations

1 maps

Maeguana spawns in grassland biomes. It is very rare and appears on only one ARK map. Focus searches in open plains with dense vegetation for the best chance to locate one.

Official

Maeguana must be knocked out before taming. Use a Chain Bola or trap it with a Bear Trap or Plant Species Y to immobilize it. Tranq Arrows from a Bow or Tranquilizer Darts from a Longneck Rifle work well for sedation.

Tame with Basic Kibble for fastest results. About 16 are needed on Official settings. The process takes around 11 minutes and requires 7 Narcotics. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Drops & Harvest Resources

Killing a Maeguana yields Hide, Raw Meat, Pelt, and Keratin. The Hatchet provides the most Hide, Pelt, and Keratin, while the Pick maximizes Raw Meat yield.

Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.

Gathering Abilities

While ridden, Maeguana gathers a wide variety of plant-based resources. Its Bite and Fly Bite attacks harvest Berries, Citronal, Longrass, Fiber, Organic Polymer, and Rockarrot efficiently. Other attacks like BellyFlop, PickUp, and Dive Bomb gather Wood, Cactus Sap, and Seeds. All harvest actions yield 10× multipliers on most plant resources.
