Auf Planeten, auf denen organisches Material im Überfluss vorhanden ist, aber Sonnenlicht nicht, ist ein zuverlässiger Bioreaktor oft die effizienteste Energiequelle. - kann in jedem Mehrzweckraum einer Basis installiert werden - kompostiert auf chemischem Wege organische Materialien und wandelt diese mit der Zeit in Energie um - verarbeitet jedes Pflanzenmaterial, von Samen und Sporen bis hin zu verfaultem Obst und Gemüse - kann auch tierisches Gewebe verarbeiten (Fett, Muskeln, Eier etc.) und einige organische Abfallprodukte - die Energieproduktion ist proportional zum Energiegehalt des organischen Materials „Der Bioreaktor: ganz und gar organisch.“
