Shadowmane Taming Calculator

A Shadowmane only takes food while it is asleep, which it is during the day. Put a filled Fish Basket in your last hotbar slot, wear Ghillie or drink Cactus Broth, and approach it from behind rather than walking up to its face, because waking it ends the attempt. Only the size of the trapped fish matters, and it decides everything: the biggest cost no effectiveness at all, smaller ones bleed it on every feed.

How this tame works

No knockout

Feed it 17 fish.

Effectiveness100%+75 Lvl

Fish size

Fish below 0.45x are refused. At 1.95x and above every fish is worth the most it can be.

  • The same 50s is also a countdown: feeding it wakes it, and it swims off once that runs out. Have the next fish ready before you offer one.
  • At 1.95x the fish costs no effectiveness at all, so this run tames at full value however many it takes.
  • You have about 50 seconds between fish before feeds start losing value.
  • It only accepts fish while it is asleep on its own. Waking it ends the attempt.

Starve & Torpor Timers

Use the feeding timer to know when the Shadowmane will accept its next meal. No more guessing between feeds.

Found throughout the ARKs, the Shadowmane is a tamable, carnivore creature in ARK: Survival Ascended. It falls within the DMG classification.

Health-wise, the Shadowmane sits at 825 base, making it quite durable. With 100% base Melee Damage, the Shadowmane has decent hitting power. With 450 base Stamina, the Shadowmane has respectable staying power. A base Weight of 425 means a solid weight pool.

After taming, the Shadowmane earns its keep through resource gathering, making tedious farming runs much faster. Breeding is via live birth rather than eggs, simplifying the process. A wild Shadowmane is worth 5 base experience when killed. It can be cloned at a Cloning Chamber for 0.95 Element plus 0.01 Element per level.
