The Roll Rat is a small herbivore tamed for its unique role as a farmer and weight reducer. It provides an 80% reduction on Wood weight in inventory, making it highly efficient for wood-based resource runs. It can be airlifted by Karkinos or Quetzal for fast deployment.
Tamed via passive feeding, the Roll Rat excels at gathering plant-based resources and is commonly used to streamline early- to mid-game farming and base construction logistics.
Roll Rats spawn in Bio Zones, Caves, and Fertile Zones. They are very rare and appear across 15 ARK maps. The highest spawn density is typically found in underground cave networks and lush surface zones with heavy flora.

Roll Rats are passively tamed by feeding them while near the creature. The best food is Giant Bee Honey, which provides the fastest taming progress. About 22 units of Giant Bee Honey are needed. The process takes around 16 minutes and requires approximately 59 Narcotics to maintain torpor. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Killing a Roll Rat yields Hide, Raw Meat, and Keratin. The Hatchet yields the most Hide and Keratin, while the Pick maximizes Raw Meat harvest.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
While ridden, the Roll Rat gathers a wide variety of plant-based resources using its bite or gem detection ability. It harvests 10× yields of Berries, Crop Seeds, Mejoberry, Narcoberry, Stimberry, Rare Flower, Rare Mushroom, and Wood. Fiber and Cactus Sap are gathered at 8× yield.
Reduces Wood weight by 80% in inventory. Pair with Karkinos or Quetzal to maintain this reduction during aerial transport.
Roll Rats are highly vulnerable to Instant HurtDinos, taking +120% damage, and are weak to spike walls (+100%) and explosive demolitions (+50%). They are highly resistant to fire damage (-60%) and projectile-based attacks (-50%). Avoid fire-based weapons when attacking them.
