Variant
The R-Procoptodon is a herbivorous variant creature from Genesis: Part 2. It features a 5% increase in Melee Damage but a 3% reduction in Health compared to the base Procoptodon. This dino excels at gathering a wide range of plant-based resources quickly while being carried by larger creatures.
It can be airlifted by Argentavis, Karkinos, Quetzal, or Tusoteuthis for rapid deployment across the map.
R-Procoptodon does not currently spawn on any ARK: Survival Ascended map, or spawn data is not yet available.
Tame the R-Procoptodon using knockout methods. The best food is Rare Mushroom, which provides the fastest taming effectiveness. Plant Species X Seed also works, though it grants half the affinity.
Immobilize it with a Chain Bola, Bear Trap, Large Bear Trap, or Plant Species Y. Use Tranq Arrows from a Bow, Crossbow, or Compound Bow, or Tranquilizer Darts from a Longneck Rifle.
Expect around 71 minutes of taming time using 71 Rare Mushrooms. Use the calculator below for your settings.
| Food | Qty | Time | Effectiveness |
|---|---|---|---|
| 71 | 1:11:00 | 72 Lvl (222) | |
| 142 | 1:34:40 | 64 Lvl (214) |
Killing the R-Procoptodon yields Hide, Raw Meat, and Pelt. The Hatchet yields the most Hide and Pelt, while the Pick maximizes Raw Meat.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
While ridden, the R-Procoptodon gathers using Bite, Kick, and PickUp attacks. Each attack harvests the same resources with equal efficiency. It excels at gathering Berries, Seeds, Mushrooms, Rare Flowers, and Wood at 10× efficiency. Cactus Sap and Fiber are gathered at 8× efficiency.
Key resources include Mejoberry, Narcoberry, Stimberry, Plant Species X Seed, and Rare Mushroom.
The R-Procoptodon takes +200% damage from spike walls, making them extremely effective for defense. It also suffers +120% damage from instant melee sources and +55% from metal melee attacks. Conversely, it has a 60% resistance to fire damage, making flame-based weapons less effective.

The head has a 1.5× damage multiplier, making headshots effective for faster knockout. Target the head when sedating to reduce taming time.
Can break Thatch and Wood. Build at least in Stone.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
The R-Procoptodon gathers Wood at 10× efficiency, making it excellent for fast wood farming.
It harvests Rare Mushroom and Plant Species X Seed at 10×, ideal for kibble or taming supply runs.
It can be carried by Argentavis or Quetzal, allowing aerial deployment to remote biomes.
Due to its low base Health, keep it out of combat and use it strictly for gathering.
