During the Baby phase (0-10%), you must hand-feed or use a Maewing to nurse. From Juvenile (10%+), dinos can eat from a Feeding Trough on their own. Use Preserving Salt in troughs to double spoil times.
More about breeding the Ovis
Breeding produces live offspring - no egg management needed. Gestation takes approximately 4 hours and 12 minutes at default rates.
After hatching or birth, the baby Ovis matures requiring significant patience, reaching adulthood in about 2 days at 1x maturation. The most labor-intensive part is the baby phase (0–10% maturation) when it can't use a Feeding Trough yet.
Offspring inherit parental stats and have a small chance to mutate, gaining +2 levels in a random stat. Use the breeding calculator to plan food requirements, incubation timers, and maturation phases.
Raising a baby Ovis involves three maturation phases: Baby (0–10%) lasts ~292 min and requires constant hand-feeding. Juvenile (10–50%) spans ~19h - it can eat from a Trough now. Adolescent (50–100%) takes ~24h - continues eating from troughs, nearly fully grown.
Imprinting during maturation provides permanent stat bonuses. At 100% imprint, the Ovis gains 30% bonus damage and resistance when ridden by the imprinter. You'll be asked to cuddle, walk, or feed specific kibble at regular intervals during maturation.

The multiplier feature helps plan large-scale Ovis raises by totaling food across all babies. Consider food spoilage when choosing what to feed: Kibble lasts days, while Raw Meat spoils in minutes.
Found throughout the ARKs, the Ovis is a tamable, herbivore creature in ARK: Survival Ascended. Classified under the Farmer group.
With 100 base Stamina, the Ovis has tires quickly. Dealing 100% base Melee Damage, the Ovis brings decent hitting power to the table. With 100 base Health, the Ovis is very frail. Weight capacity starts at 90, giving it very limited carrying capacity.
Taming the Ovis doesn't require unconsciousness. Instead, sneak up to it and hand-feed its preferred food. Its preferred food is Sweet Vegetable Cake.
After taming, the Ovis earns its keep through resource gathering, making tedious farming runs much faster. Breeding is via live birth rather than eggs, simplifying the process. Killing a wild Ovis yields 1 base XP. It can be cloned at a Cloning Chamber for 0.79 Element plus 0.01 Element per level.
