The Manta is a passive, carnivorous creature that inhabits underwater environments. It is primarily tamed for its ability to reduce the weight of inventory items while being carried by other creatures. This makes it valuable for streamlining transport of resources across long distances. It can be airlifted by Argentavis, Desmodus, Griffin, Karkinos, Megalosaurus, Kaprosuchus, Procoptodon, Quetzal, or Tusoteuthis for rapid deployment.
Mantas spawn commonly in deep-ocean, cave, and ocean biomes. They appear across 20 ARK maps, making them widely accessible. Look for them gliding in underwater caves or open sea zones where light penetration is low.

The Manta uses passive taming and does not require knockout. Feed it AnglerGel directly while in the water. Raw Mutton can also be used, though it grants significantly less affinity. About 40 units of AnglerGel are needed. The tame time is around 19 minutes at level 207 with 76% effectiveness. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Take a look at this short video guide on how to tame a Manta.
When killed, the Manta yields Raw Fish Meat. The Pick is the best tool for maximizing yield from the corpse.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
The Manta has a strong vulnerability to damage from instant hurt sources, taking +120% more damage. It is also highly susceptible to spike walls and melee attacks that exploit its weakness, such as those from metal-based raid creatures. Avoid using Mining Drills, which deal no damage to it. Focus on high-damage melee or explosive attacks for efficient takedowns.

The head has a damage multiplier of 1.5x, making it the optimal target for faster knockouts or eliminations.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
The Manta takes +120% more damage from instant hurt effects. This makes it highly vulnerable in aggressive combat zones. Use spike walls or explosive traps to exploit this weakness effectively. It is immune to damage from Mining Drills, making them safe to use near it. When transporting, pair it with a Quetzal or Argentavis to maintain inventory efficiency.
