Farmer
The Magmasaur is a large omnivore with a unique role as a mobile resource farmer. It reduces the weight of Metal, Ambergris, and Metal Ingot in its inventory by up to -75%, making it ideal for hauling heavy resources. Players typically tame it to streamline metal and polymer collection across long distances. It can be carried by Tusoteuthis for aerial transport.
This weight reduction applies to inventory items only. The Magmasaur excels in gathering high-tier resources while resisting fire-based attacks.
Magmasaur does not currently spawn on any ARK: Survival Ascended map, or spawn data is not yet available.
Magmasaur is tamed by egg, requiring you to steal and incubate its egg. The best food is Raw Prime Fish Meat, which provides the fastest taming affinity. Raw Mutton also works well if the primary option is unavailable. Use a Bear Trap, Large Bear Trap, or Chain Bola to immobilize it during the process. Taming takes approximately 30 minutes with optimal settings. Use the calculator below for your settings.
Magmasaur is tamable by stealing an Egg.
Killing a Magmasaur yields Hide, Raw Prime Meat, and Sulfur. The Hatchet yields the most Hide, while the Pick maximizes Raw Prime Meat and Sulfur.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
While ridden, Magmasaur gathers a wide range of resources using its Bite and Claw attacks. These harvest efficiently from nodes containing Blue Gem, Crystal, Flint, Metal, Obsidian, Oil, and Rare Mushroom, each at 9× efficiency. Its VentForge ability gathers berries, seeds, and wood at 10× efficiency, including Mejoberry, Narcoberry, and Stimberry. This dual-purpose harvesting makes it highly versatile on resource runs.
Magmasaur reduces inventory weight by -75% for Metal and Metal Ingot, and -50% for Ambergris. Pair it with Tusoteuthis to maintain this reduction during aerial transport.
Magmasaur has a strong resistance to fire, taking -100% damage from Projectile Fire, making it immune to flame-based attacks. Its greatest vulnerability is to spike walls, which deal +400% damage. It also takes +55% damage from metal melee attacks and +50% from explosions. Avoid placing it near spike traps or explosive defenses.

The VentForge attack gathers berries and seeds at 10× efficiency, ideal for fast crop farming.
Bite and Claw harvest metal, crystal, and oil nodes at 9×, excelling in high-tier resource zones.
Immune to fire damage, allowing safe operation in volcanic or flame-hazard areas.
Can be carried by Tusoteuthis, enabling long-range deployment without losing weight reduction.
Takes +400% damage from spike walls, so avoid defensive setups using Spike Wall.
Reduces Metal and Metal Ingot weight by 75%, optimizing cargo loads for metal runs.
