The Kentrosaurus is a herbivorous creature with a role focused on miscellaneous utility. It reduces the weight of harvested resources in its inventory, making it efficient for gathering trips. It can be airlifted by Quetzal or Tusoteuthis for fast deployment to remote resource nodes.
Players typically tame Kentrosaurus to optimize long-distance harvesting runs while preserving inventory capacity.
Kentrosaurus spawns in desert mountains, forests, mountains, and oases. It is considered uncommon and appears across 21 ARK maps. The green zones on the spawn map indicate areas with the highest spawn density.

Kentrosaurus must be knocked out before taming. Use a Chain Bola, Bear Trap, or Large Bear Trap to immobilize it. Then apply tranquilizing weapons such as the Bow, Crossbow, or Fabricated Sniper Rifle using Tranq Arrows or Tranquilizer Darts.
The best food is Regular Kibble, with Base Veggie as a viable alternative. Taming takes about 40 minutes and requires 31 units of Regular Kibble at level 150 on Official settings. No narcotics are needed. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Killing a Kentrosaurus yields Hide, Raw Meat, and Keratin. The Hatchet yields the most Hide and Keratin, while the Pick maximizes Raw Meat harvest.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
While ridden, Kentrosaurus gathers using its Bite attack. It harvests Berries, Seeds, Mushrooms, Rare Flowers, Rare Mushrooms, Wood, Cactus Sap, and Fiber. The Bite attack yields 10× multipliers on most berries, seeds, and wood, making it highly efficient for plant-based resource farming. Tail attacks do not gather resources.
Kentrosaurus has a strong weakness to Instant HurtDinos, taking +120% damage, and to SpikeWall, taking +100% damage. It is highly resistant to fire, taking 60% less damage. Melee attacks with projectile impact effects are also 50% less effective. Exploiting its vulnerability to spike walls is effective in base defense setups.

Official servers use non-1× defaults; the values above already reflect official rates.

The head has a 1.5× damage multiplier, making headshots effective for faster knockout. All other body zones have standard damage multipliers.
Kentrosaurus can break Thatch and Wood structures. Build at least in Stone to protect against its structural damage.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
The Bite attack provides a 10× harvest multiplier on most berries, seeds, and wood.
It takes +120% damage from Instant HurtDinos, making it vulnerable to certain environmental hazards.
Spike walls deal +100% damage to Kentrosaurus, making them effective in defensive perimeters.
It is 60% resistant to fire damage, so flame-based weapons are not recommended.
It can be carried by Quetzal, enabling rapid deployment to distant gathering zones.
The weight reduction applies only to resources in its inventory, not its own weight.
