The Dreadmare is a large flying carnivore that thrives in dark environments. It is tamed through a unique tribute-based passive method involving rare creature parts and nighttime rituals. Once tamed, it serves as a powerful aerial combat mount capable of devastating area attacks. It can be airlifted by Quetzal or Karkinos for fast deployment.
The Dreadmare's TerrorShield ability creates a damaging aura that weakens nearby enemies, making it ideal for siege assaults and base defense. Its ability to summon a black hole during combat disrupts enemy formations and draws in projectiles. This makes it especially valuable for PvP engagements and boss fights where control is critical.
The Dreadmare spawns in dark zones across 15 ARK maps. It is very common, with high spawn density in underground and shadowed biomes. Look for the black zones on the spawn map to locate its preferred habitats.

Taming a Dreadmare requires the special passive method. First, kill a wild Dreadmare to obtain its altar. Place the altar and offer tributes such as Sarcosuchus Skin, Spinosaurus Sail, or Giganotosaurus Heart at night. A new Dreadmare will spawn and must be defeated. Repeat this cycle until the taming bar fills, then interact with the altar to claim your tamed mount.
The best food for taming is Spoiled Meat, which provides the highest affinity. Raw Meat also works, though less efficiently. The process takes about 99 minutes with Spoiled Meat at level 150. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Killing a Dreadmare yields Hide, Raw Meat, and Pelt. The Hatchet is the best tool for harvesting Hide and Pelt, while the Pick yields the most Raw Meat.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
The Dreadmare has a +120% weakness to Instant HurtDinos damage, making it highly vulnerable to instant-hit creatures. It also takes +100% more damage from spike walls, making them very effective in defensive perimeters. Conversely, it is highly resistant to mining drill harvest damage, taking -100% damage from it.
