Use the raising calculator to plan food requirements for raising Dire Bear babies through all three growth stages. The Baby phase (0–10%) takes ~278 minutes and is the most hands-on, requiring direct feeding or a Maewing.
The multiplier feature helps plan large-scale Dire Bear raises by totaling food across all babies. Consider food spoilage when choosing what to feed: Kibble lasts days, while Raw Meat spoils in minutes.

During the Baby phase (0-10%), you must hand-feed or use a Maewing to nurse. From Juvenile (10%+), dinos can eat from a Feeding Trough on their own. Use Preserving Salt in troughs to double spoil times.
The Dire Bear gives live birth after mating, skipping the egg-incubation step entirely. Gestation takes approximately 4 hours at default rates.
The baby Dire Bear takes approximately 1 day and 22 hours to fully mature at default rates - slowly. The most labor-intensive part is the baby phase (0–10% maturation) when it can't use a Feeding Trough yet.
Each baby inherits stats from both parents with a chance of mutation - +2 wild levels to a random stat plus a color change. Use the breeding calculator to plan food requirements, incubation timers, and maturation phases.
Maturation has three phases: Baby (0–10%) lasts ~278 min and requires constant hand-feeding. Juvenile (10–50%) spans ~19h - it can eat from a Trough now. Adolescent (50–100%) takes ~23h - continues eating from troughs, nearly fully grown.
Don't skip imprinting - each successful imprint boosts the Dire Bear's stats, and hitting 100% grants a 30% combat bonus when the imprinter rides it. Keep various kibble types on hand, as imprint requests are randomized between cuddles, walks, and kibble feeding.
ARK: Survival Ascended features the Dire Bear as a tamable, omnivore creature that survivors will encounter in the wild. It falls within the DMG classification.
At 400 base HP, the Dire Bear is moderately tough. Its base Melee Damage sits at 100%, giving it solid damage output. With 500 base Stamina, the Dire Bear has good endurance. A base Weight of 650 means excellent carrying capacity.
To tame the Dire Bear, you need to knock it unconscious using torpor weapons, then feed it while it's down. Feed it Giant Bee Honey for the fastest tame and highest effectiveness bonus.
After taming, the Dire Bear pulls double duty as both a capable resource harvester and pack animal. It gives live birth after a gestation period, making breeding straightforward. Killing a wild Dire Bear yields 4 base XP. It can be cloned at a Cloning Chamber for 0.66 Element plus 0.01 Element per level.
