Overview

Dimetrodon is a small carnivore used primarily in breeding. It can be carried by larger creatures for transport, making it easy to deploy in remote areas. It is tamed to serve as a mobile incubator for egg-laying species due to its body heat.

It can be airlifted by Argentavis or Karkinos for fast deployment.

Spawn Locations

19 maps

Dimetrodon spawns in desert mountains, freshwater zones, oases, and wastelands. It is rare and appears across 18 ARK maps. The green zones on the spawn map indicate the highest spawn density.

Dimetrodon must be knocked out before taming. Use a Chain Bola or trap it with a Bear Trap or Large Bear Trap to immobilize it. Tranq Arrows from a Bow or Crossbow are effective for sedation.

Taming takes about 41 minutes with Regular Kibble, requiring around 10 units and 211 Narcotics. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Drops & Harvest Resources

Killing a Dimetrodon yields Hide, Raw Meat, and Raw Prime Meat. The Hatchet yields the most Hide, while the Pick maximizes Raw Meat. Use a Dino (Prime) for the highest Raw Prime Meat output.

Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.

Damage Resistances

Dimetrodon takes +200% damage from spike walls, making them highly effective in defense. It is also vulnerable to explosions and melee attacks from metal weapons. It is highly resistant to mining drill damage, taking -100% damage from such sources.
