The Coelacanth is a small aquatic carnivore found in various underwater environments. It is primarily used for breeding and as a food source due to its high spawn abundance and ease of farming. It does not carry or get carried by other creatures for transport.
Coelacanths are commonly farmed for their Raw Fish Meat and are often kept in underwater enclosures for sustainable harvesting.
Coelacanths spawn on 22 ARK maps and are very common. They inhabit a wide range of biomes including caves, deep oceans, deserts, freshwater, grasslands, oases, oceans, and redwood forests. Look for them in green zones on the spawn map, which indicate the highest spawn density.
Each shape is a real spawn volume. Click for exact chance and zone info.
Coelacanths cannot be tamed.
Coelacanth is tamable using a Fish Basket.
Killing a Coelacanth yields Raw Fish Meat. The Mining Drill provides the highest quantity yield when harvesting the corpse.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
The Coelacanth has a +900% weakness to Melee Dino Carnivore Medium Flyer HarvestPolymer attacks and a +120% weakness to Instant HurtDinos. It is highly resistant to Mining Drill Harvest, taking -100% damage. Spike walls and ranged turrets are moderately effective, reducing incoming damage by 50%. Exploiting its polymer vulnerability is key in combat.

The Coelacanth has a head hitbox that takes 1.5× damage, making headshots effective for faster kills. Focus attacks on the head during combat for optimal efficiency.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
The Coelacanth takes 900% more damage from polymer-based melee attacks, making it extremely vulnerable to flyers like the Pteranodon when harvesting resources.
It is immune to Mining Drill Harvest damage, meaning mining drills cannot harm it.
Found in both freshwater and oceanic biomes, it adapts well to most underwater enclosures.
Its high spawn abundance makes it ideal for sustainable Raw Fish Meat farming.
