About Subnautica 2 Items

Subnautica 2 ships 278 item entries in the May 14, 2026 Early Access build. Items break down into hand tools, equipment, vehicle modules, raw resources, base-building parts, deployables, decorative architecture, farmable plants, creature drops and wreck loot, plus a small bucket for entries that don't fit cleanly into a single category. Around half the roster ships with finished inventory icons at launch; the rest fall back to in-game model renders until the artists hand-author the icon.

Most items are crafted at the Fabricator, the Modification Station or the Processor, with base pieces placed in-world via the Habitat Builder. Every recipe is keyed off a single output item plus its ingredient list, and each entry tracks its unlock state: available from start, locked behind a scan, or hidden until a story beat unlocks it. 305 recipes are active in the launch build, with more landing through Early Access updates.

Subnautica 2 is co-op-aware. Up to four divers share one ocean with drop-in joining and cross-platform play between PC and Xbox Series, so any item dropped from inventory can be picked up by another crew member. Vehicle and base storage is shared on the same save. The full item ladder is designed to be progressed once and reused across the whole crew, not gated per-player.

This wiki tracks every item in the current build: recipes, drop sources, stack sizes, the WIP placeholder status, and category labels in all 11 SN2 languages. Numbers update as Unknown Worlds ships Early Access patches.

Subnautica 2 item questions

01How many items are in Subnautica 2?
Subnautica 2 ships 329 item entries in the May 14, 2026 Early Access build, spread across eleven categories: Tools, Equipment, Modules, Resources, Base Parts, Deployables, Architecture, Farmable Plants, Creature Drops, Wreck Loot and Other. The database also includes a small number of Test and Deprecated entries that ship as game-engine placeholders. Unknown Worlds adds new items in regular patches throughout the two to three year Early Access window.
02How do I craft items in Subnautica 2?
Most items are crafted at the Fabricator, the Modification Station for vehicle and suit upgrades, or the Processor for refined materials. Some base pieces use the Habitat Builder placed in-world rather than fabricated as an inventory item. Each recipe lists its required ingredients and the unlock state: Available from start, Locked behind a scan, or Hidden until unlocked. The Builder unlocks more recipes as you scan wreckage and complete story beats.
03What is the difference between an item icon and a render?
Icons are the baked 512x512 inventory textures — tightly cropped, square, and the canonical thumbnail for each item. Renders are Blender mesh exports we generate from the in-game model. We prefer icons when they exist, and fall back to renders for items the artists haven't baked yet (Scuba Mask, Disperser and a handful of others marked Work-In-Progress).
04Why are some Subnautica 2 items marked WIP or Placeholder?
Items flagged WIP carry a [PLACEHOLDER] description in the live build, meaning Unknown Worlds shipped the asset but hasn't authored the final flavour text yet. The item still works in-game, the wiki just shows the placeholder marker so you know the lore description will change. These tend to be utility items or late-game gear added shortly before Early Access launch.
05Can items be traded or shared in co-op?
Yes. Up to four players share one ocean in Subnautica 2 and any item dropped from inventory can be picked up by another diver, the same way the original Subnautica handled hand-offs. Vehicle and base storage is shared across the crew on the same save. There is no cross-save trade or marketplace, and there are no microtransactions.
06Do items from Subnautica 1 return?
No. Unknown Worlds has confirmed that no items return from the original Subnautica or Below Zero. The Tadpole replaces the Seamoth, Biomods replace upgrade modules, and the resource ladder is built fresh for the new alien ocean planet. Some functional analogs exist (Scanner, Survival Knife, Fabricator) but every asset is new.
