- BACKGROUND
- The standard fabricator is designed for easy assembly in austere survival situations. When blueprints call for complex, multi-system integration, sensitive quantum processes, or non-ground-state synthesis, the modification station steps up.
- Mod stations are typically used by engineers to adapt their tools, but any pioneer can benefit from the station's specialized blueprints. Alterra vehicles are designed with expansion slots for modifications - "an unbeatable synthesis of affordability and scalability". The mod station can even help invent or integrate new technology, self-modifying its own tooling as needed*.
- Because the modification station needs data on the systems it is modifying and their intended applications, it cooperates closely with PDAs. If this PDA was ever customized before its recent reset, that work might have been done at a mod station like this one. It might be tempting for a user to anthropomorphize the PDA and the mod station as 'friends'.
- *The mod station contains a Trans-System Federation blackbox monitoring device to prevent users from violating interstellar law. Do not attempt to tamper with or remove this device.
