- My name is Zygimantis Tarvydas. I am a survivor of the Mongolian Independent States, a colonist aboard the starship Cicada, and a debt slave to the Alterra Corporation. I am with my friends Rauli Isotalo, Udal Singh and Melaku Sansar. Of all the things I have seen and done...this thing is the most important.
- I leave this marker as testament that we discovered the remnants of an alien civilization on this world we call Proteus. Let our names be remembered by the workers and the pioneers.
- The computers call these aliens 'Axum'. Something has happened to their civilization...the survivors guard these ruins, but they have been reduced to scavengers: Tailings.
- I think maybe the virus did it. Seized control of them and drove them mad, as it drives us mad. But I do not know. All I know is that I am here, with my friends, looking on the work of alien minds.
