The Kin are visitors to this world from rift space. They lived on Earth in ancient times, and fell into a deep slumber after the gifts bestowed upon them by the outer gods began to fade. They remained in their slumber until they were finally awakened by the Starfall.
The Disciple is a typical Kin - it uses the power of Stardust to fly through the air with a kind of sinister grace.
Rosetta has been conducting its own investigations into the mysteries of Stardust for a long time now. These investigations have also revealed some new truths about the ancient past. It is now known that the Disciples had, at one time, managed to establish a highly advanced civilization for themselves. The Disciples were trying to reawaken the old gods, and their great cities were their temples. At their height, Disciple society was more advanced than humanity's ever was.
One particular type of Disciple is the Shepherd. Shepherds are able to manipulate and control Stardust in a highly sophisticated manner. By extension, they can also manipulate creatures infected by Stardust, and guide them like a flock of obedient sheep.
If you ever encounter a flock of Deviants out in the wilderness, it is likely that a Shepherd is lurking somewhere nearby. The Shepherd is a cunning creature. It prefers to lie in wait, controlling the movements of others, before leaping on its prey like a praying mantis ensnaring a cricket.
