This shrine honors Chanzui, a figure wrapped in mystery and legend. My grandma used to tell me he loved steamed bamboo dumplings above all else, harvesting what he needed to make them.
One day, he used up every last shoot of bamboo. Heartbroken, he vowed to protect the land and help it grow back. From then on, people say he watched over the bamboo forest as its guardian spirit.
As you stand here, may you feel his care for the land. I know I do.
