群れをなす小型の魚で独特な推進方法を持つ。ブラダフィッシュとは類縁関係がある。 1.アンテナ: 泳ぐのではなく、体を囲む細い緑色のアンテナによって前方の水の組成を変化させ、低密度になった前方の空間に向けて「帆走」する。 2.紫と緑の体色: 中波長の光に対応したカモフラージュである可能性があり、フープフィッシュが夜明けや夕暮れ時に最も活発である可能性を示唆している。 3.行動: フープフィッシュの群れは定期的に形成され、集団で捕食者を回避する。この行動は防衛的というよりは社会的であり、単独のフープフィッシュは餌を探す際に、好奇心旺盛な行動がしばしば観察される。 評価: 食用可
