Wear a Ghillie Suit or drink Cactus Broth, separate one from its pack leader by more than ten metres, then crouch and wait for it to stop running and lose interest in you. A pet prompt appears once it is calm, alone and unaware. Pet it again within thirty seconds every time. A taming pen makes this far easier than chasing one in the open, and if it bolts you lose progress.

- If it bolts you lose 30% of the progress so far, so back off the moment it looks nervous rather than pushing one more pet.
- Each pet is a flat amount plus a share of what it needs, so the number of pets barely changes with level.
