The Troodon is a small carnivore used for passive taming and cargo transport. It features a unique taming method that relies on allowing it to kill your tamed creatures to gain taming effectiveness. Its primary use is as a mobile taming companion and lightweight cargo carrier.
It can be airlifted by Argentavis, Desmodus, Griffin, Karkinos, Megalosaurus, Tropeognathus, Kaprosuchus, Procoptodon, Pteranodon, Quetzal, Tapejara, or Tusoteuthis for fast deployment.
Troodon spawns in desert, forest, jungle, redwood, and snow biomes. It is rare and appears across 21 ARK maps. Look for it near rocky outcrops and forest edges where it ambushes prey.

Troodon is tamed passively by letting it kill your tamed creatures. The taming effectiveness depends on the XP yield of the sacrificed creature, so higher-level creatures are more efficient. Babies and adults provide identical XP.
Use a Bola or Bear Trap to immobilize the offering creature, as setting it to passive is not possible. Traditional taming multipliers do not apply. No Narcotics are needed. Use the calculator below for your settings.
A Troodon tames on kills, but only kills of tamed creatures belonging to one tribe. Bring your own creatures to it and let it finish them off. A wild kill is worth nothing, and it ignores anything set to Passive or with a rider on it. The first kill it takes credit for decides whose tame it is, and every kill after that has to come from the same tribe. What a kill is worth scales with the experience that creature yields, so bigger is better, and night is well over twice as fast as day.

Killing a Troodon yields Hide and Raw Meat. The Hatchet yields the most Hide, while the Pick maximizes Raw Meat harvest.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
Troodon has a strong vulnerability to Instant HurtDinos, taking +120% damage. It is highly resistant to Mining Drill Harvest, taking -100% damage. It also takes +55% more damage from Melee DmgMetal RaidDino attacks. Focus on melee or explosive damage when fighting it.

The head has a 3.0× damage multiplier, making headshots highly effective for knockout attempts. Aim for the head to reduce taming time.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
The Troodon takes +120% damage from Instant HurtDinos, making spike walls and similar traps highly effective.
It is immune to damage from Mining Drill Harvest, allowing safe use near automated mining systems.
It can be carried by flyers like Argentavis and Quetzal, enabling rapid deployment to taming zones.
Its compact size makes it ideal for transport in tight spaces or caves.
