Overview

Shinehorn is a small herbivore that functions as a Shoulder Pet. It provides weight reduction for gathered resources and can be carried by larger flying and swimming creatures. This makes it useful for efficient resource transport during aerial or aquatic expeditions.

It can be airlifted by Argentavis, Desmodus, Griffin, Karkinos, Megalosaurus, Tropeognathus, Kaprosuchus, Procoptodon, Pteranodon, Quetzal, Tapejara, or Tusoteuthis for rapid deployment across the map.

Spawn Locations

14 maps

Shinehorn spawns in bio-zones and caves. It is rare and appears across 14 ARK maps. Look for it in underground areas or designated ecological zones where rare herbivores tend to cluster.

Mod Maps

Shinehorn is tamed passively. Feed it Plant Species Z Seed to complete the process. Aggeravic Mushroom also works but provides significantly less affinity per use. The tame takes about 1 minute with 5 Plant Species Z Seeds at level 150 on official settings. No narcotics are needed. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.

Gathering Abilities

While ridden, Shinehorn gathers a wide variety of plant-based resources. Its melee attack harvests Berries, Mejoberry, Narcoberry, Stimberry, Rare Flower, Rare Mushroom, Plant Species X Seed, Plant Species Y Seed, and Wood at 10× efficiency. It also gathers Fiber and Cactus Sap at 8×. This makes it ideal for farming seeds and stimulant berries.

Damage Resistances

Shinehorn has a strong weakness to Instant HurtDinos, taking +120% more damage. It is highly resistant to Radiation, taking -100% damage. Explosion and melee attacks from metal weapons also exploit its vulnerabilities. Avoid using spike walls or ranged turrets, as it resists those damage types.
