The Rhyniognatha is a small, flying omnivore known for its unique taming method and role as a Soaker. It utilizes a special passive taming process involving pheromones and impregnation of a host dinosaur. Players tame it to exploit its resin-based attacks and aerial mobility in combat and harassment scenarios.
It can be airlifted by Quetzal or Karkinos for fast deployment.
Rhyniognatha spawns on 16 ARK maps and is commonly encountered. It appears in forested and mountainous biomes across these maps. Use the in-game spawn map to locate high-density zones for efficient scouting.

Taming a Rhyniognatha requires a special passive method. First, kill one to obtain a Rhyniognatha Pheromone. Place this in a large dinosaur’s inventory and have it consume the item. Then, reduce a female Rhyniognatha’s health below 10% to trigger impregnation of your host. Keep the host fed with its preferred foods during gestation.
Use a Chain Bola, Bear Trap, or Large Bear Trap to immobilize the female. No narcotics are required. Use the calculator below for your settings.
To tame a Rhyniognatha, first dispatch one, collecting the Rhyniognatha Pheromone it drops. Transfer this pheromone to a larger dinosaur’s inventory and allow it to ingest it. Next, seek out a female Rhyniognatha, reducing her health to under 10%. This will lead her to impregnate your dinosaur. During the gestation period, provide your dino with its desired foods. After a while, your new Rhyniognatha will emerge.
Killing a Rhyniognatha yields Chitin and Raw Meat. The Pick provides the highest quantity of Raw Meat, while a dinosaur with an omnivore diet yields the most Chitin.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
Rhyniognatha has a +400% weakness to SpikeWall damage, making spike walls extremely effective in base defense. It also takes +120% damage from Instant HurtDinos and +55% from Melee DmgMetal RaidDino attacks. Conversely, it has -50% resistance to Melee WithProjectileImpactFX and Ranged Turret Small DefensePlant damage.

Numbers reflect base melee at level 1, 100% TE, no imprint. The damage calculator lets you scale by melee %, server multipliers, and pick a specific structure for exact hit counts.
The Resin Ball attack applies a slowing effect from up to 60 meters away.
Resin Glob has a 4-second cooldown and can hinder movement in choke points.
Resin Bomb has an 8-second cooldown and is effective for area denial.
The Taunt ability draws aggression from nearby creatures within 8.3 meters.
It takes significantly increased damage from spike walls, making it vulnerable in structured defenses.
Use a host dinosaur with high Food and Stamina to survive the gestation period.

Not true Giga has 950 and Bronto has 1000
luckyabdomen
The dino's level is influenced by its weight class. Giga or higher is ideal for Rhyniognatha impregnation due to higher drag weight, maximizing effectiveness. Ensure the dino has high health, as it will take damage when its food stat hits 0 during cravings. Successfully feed it 5 times for full taming effectiveness—failure drops it by 20% per missed feeding. Note that Brontos have less drag weight than Gigas, making Gigas the better choice for this purpose.
