The Rex is a large carnivore and a powerful damage-dealer in combat. Its devastating Bite attack and ability to stun enemies with a Roar make it a feared predator on the battlefield. It can be airlifted by Tusoteuthis for rapid deployment behind enemy lines or to bypass difficult terrain.
Players typically tame the Rex for base raiding, boss fights, and as a frontline combat mount due to its high damage and crowd control potential.
The Rex spawns commonly across a variety of biomes including Caves, Chalk Hills, Dark Zones, Grasslands, Mountains, Snow regions, Volcanoes, and Wastelands. It appears on 21 ARK maps, making it widely accessible. The green zones on the spawn map indicate the highest density of Rex spawns.

Tame the Rex using the knockout method. Use Exceptional Kibble for the fastest taming. Raw Mutton also works if you lack kibble. Immobilize it with a Chain Bola, Bear Trap, or Large Bear Trap.
Use ranged weapons from the Bow, Crossbow, or Compound Bow with Tranq Arrows to knock it out. About 17 Exceptional Kibble are needed. The tame takes around 58 minutes. Use the calculator below for your settings.

Killing a Rex yields Tyrannosaurus Arm, Rex Bone Helmet, Hide, Raw Meat, and Raw Prime Meat. The Hatchet yields the most Hide, while the Pick is best for Raw Meat and Raw Prime Meat.
Estimates based on game-extracted data (weights, quantities, harvest multipliers, damage type chains). Each harvest event independently rolls each resource - higher weight = higher drop chance. Actual yields vary with RNG.
The Rex takes +400% damage from spike walls, making them extremely effective in defensive setups. It also takes +120% damage from general damage sources and +55% from metal melee attacks. Conversely, it has a -100% resistance to mining drill harvesting, meaning it cannot be damaged by that mechanic. It resists ranged turret attacks and projectile-based melee by 50%.
