Knock the Quetzal unconscious using your preferred torpor weapon, then feed it to begin the taming process. Once unconscious, Torpor drains at 3.4/s, so keep Narcotics or Bio Toxin ready.

The results below show total taming time, effectiveness, and bonus levels for the Quetzal at your selected level and food. Higher-quality foods yield more bonus levels.
The table shows how many sedatives you'll need to keep the Quetzal unconscious through the full taming duration. Your options are Narcotics (40 Torpor), Bio Toxin (80 Torpor, best efficiency), or Narcoberries (7.5 Torpor, cheapest but slowest). The Quetzal bleeds 3.4 Torpor/s, so keep a close eye on the bar and sedate early.
Use the torpor and starve timers to track your Quetzal tame in real time. Starve taming is recommended for valuable high-level Quetzal: let the Food stat deplete first, then add food. This way nothing is wasted if something goes wrong.
The Quetzal is a tamable, carnivore creature in ARK: Survival Ascended. It belongs to the Flyer category.
Melee starts at 100% - solid damage output that scales with level-ups. Starting at 1,200 Health, it's among the tougher creatures. Its base Stamina of 800 gives it massive stamina reserves. It carries 800 base Weight - excellent carrying capacity.
The Quetzal is a knockout tame: apply enough torpor to knock it out, then place food in its inventory. For best results, use Exceptional Kibble - it gives the highest taming efficiency.
As a tame, the Quetzal combines solid harvesting capability with generous carrying capacity. Breeding produces fertilized eggs that hatch within a 5°C–6°C temperature window. A wild Quetzal is worth 18 base experience when killed. It can be cloned at a Cloning Chamber for 0.98 Element plus 0.1 Element per level.
Take a look at this short video guide on how to tame a Quetzal.
Estimated time until optimal feeding point: 1h 35m 42s
Food to consume through starvation: 2813
Target food level: 1387
The table below shows how many hits from each torpor weapon are needed to knock out the Quetzal at different levels. Wait between shots for torpor to tick up. Firing too fast can kill the creature before it goes down.
To simplify the knockout, immobilize the Quetzal first with Chain Bola or Bear Trap. A Tusoteuthis can also pick it up and drop it into a taming pen for a controlled knockout.
