The raising calculator above shows exactly how much food you need for each maturation phase of the Otter. Expect ~126 minutes of active care during the Baby phase before it graduates to trough-feeding as a Juvenile.
The multiplier feature helps plan large-scale Otter raises by totaling food across all babies. Different food types have different spoil timers - factor that into which food you stockpile.

During the Baby phase (0-10%), you must hand-feed or use a Maewing to nurse. From Juvenile (10%+), dinos can eat from a Feeding Trough on their own. Use Preserving Salt in troughs to double spoil times.
The Otter gives live birth after mating, skipping the egg-incubation step entirely. Gestation takes approximately 8 hours at default rates.
The baby Otter takes approximately 21 hours and 2 minutes to fully mature at default rates - at a medium pace. The most labor-intensive part is the baby phase (0–10% maturation) when it can't use a Feeding Trough yet.
Each baby inherits stats from both parents with a chance of mutation - +2 wild levels to a random stat plus a color change. Use the breeding calculator to plan food requirements, incubation timers, and maturation phases.
Maturation has three phases: Baby (0–10%) lasts ~126 min and requires constant hand-feeding. Juvenile (10–50%) spans ~8h - it can eat from a Trough now. Adolescent (50–100%) takes ~11h - continues eating from troughs, nearly fully grown.
Don't skip imprinting - each successful imprint boosts the Otter's stats, and hitting 100% grants a 30% combat bonus when the imprinter rides it. Keep various kibble types on hand, as imprint requests are randomized between cuddles, walks, and kibble feeding.
ARK: Survival Ascended features the Otter as a tamable, piscivore creature that survivors will encounter in the wild. It falls within the Shoulder Pet classification.
With 40 base Health, the Otter is glass-cannon fragile. Its base Melee Damage sits at 100%, giving it decent hitting power. With 180 base Stamina, the Otter has moderate endurance. Weight capacity starts at 30, giving it very limited carrying capacity.
Taming the Otter doesn't require unconsciousness. Instead, sneak up to it and hand-feed its preferred food. Its preferred food is Sabertooth Salmon (1.0x).
After taming, the Otter is primarily used for resource harvesting, excelling at gathering specific materials. It gives live birth after a gestation period, making breeding straightforward. Killing a wild Otter yields 4 base XP. It can be cloned at a Cloning Chamber for 0.84 Element plus 0.01 Element per level.
